Elance is one of the two biggest freelance marketplaces. Elance lets you create a profile, take tests to show your proficiency, and bid on jobs posted in your category of expertise. Payment to freelancers is managed through an on site escrow service or an automatic billing option. There are free and paid membership options, and “connects” are used to bid. They have four different membership tiers, the lowest of which is free and you just pay 8.75% of your earnings.
